A couple of weeks after finishing our 3rd contribution to DIY SOS The Big Build Ireland, we’re looking forward to Rte One’s scheduled to release on Sunday evenings later this month (October 2020).
It’s been an 18-month process to date, starting with Motive Television approaching us with their ambitions in spring 2019. Three tiring, emotion-filled builds later, we’re proud of the combined effort and the changes to 3 family’s lives we’ve helped achieve.
What can we say of the experience? It is very hard work, physically and mentally draining with a huge amount of planning and cooperation involved to pull it off. But the fact that we’re doing it for the right reasons and with people who genuinely care and want to help make it so rewarding. It certainly was not a regular job!
We have been privileged to work with some amazingly talented tradespeople and suppliers who have bent over backwards to deliver what we need. To be guided by experts in their fields and to have the opportunity to work with top quality products and services is a treat. To get a taste of the TV world and the miracles production teams perform on a daily basis has been an eye-opener for sure! But the real wonder is all the people – the volunteers – who came to lend a hand in whatever way they could, just to be a part of making it all happen.
The schedule is crazy and the brief is over the top. It should be impossible to pull off what has been done in 10 days but with the right people and a LOT of luck, we did it. Faced with snow-storms, Ploughing Championships, Covid-19 and every other challenge you could conceive, we delivered.
Professionally we are very thankful to have been offered this opportunity and personally, it has broadened our horizons and pushed us way out of our comfort zones. Being part of something greater than ourselves to make a tangible difference because it’s the right thing to do and because we have the right skills, is amazingly fulfilling.
We’ve been promised the magic of TV so we’re looking forward to seeing how it can turn this motley crew and each worthy family’s dreams into a special programme. Thank you to all of our families and friends who gave us space and held the reins for us while we embarked on this adventure.
